Gunung Marapi

Mount Marapi, also known as the Merapi volcano has a height or 2891.3 m above sea level. As one of the most active volcanoes in Sumatra, Marapi has erupted frequently. Starting from the late 18th century until 2008 there were about 454 times erupts, 50 of them on a large scale, while the rest on a small scale by eliminating the ash sulfur.

Among the many mountains that exist in West Sumatra, Mount Marapi is a tourist attraction that is often visited by the tourists. Mount Marapi have a fixed point for the climber, making it easier for the climbers to make the climb. On this mountain, there is growing interest edelwis blooming around the slopes of the mountain, which adds beautiful view of Mount Marapi.

Mount Marapi, located near the town of Bukittinggi, precisely around the District Agam and Tanah Datar, West Sumatera, Indonesia.

Access to reach the Mount Marapi is fairly easy, considering it is situated not far from the central town of Bukittinggi and Padang Panjang. From Padang or airport Ketaping to Mount Marapi, it took about 1,5 hours to get to the location. Meanwhile, if departed from the town of Bukittinggi took about 30 minutes. Transportation to reach the site can be reached by landline, can use public transport or travel. The cost of transport ranged between 15,000-Rp. 20,000 per person.
Location of Mount Marapi is not so far from the city of Bukittinggi and Padang Panjang. In view of Mount Marapi is close to 2 cities, tourists from out of town who want to linger in the area, to stay at the hotel in two of the city. Along the road to Mount Marapi, there are many restaurants serving various cuisine of Padang dishes that can cure the hunger of the tourists.

There are several hiking paths at this point, but the starting point that people use to make the climb here is from Koto Baru. Before you make the climb, the climbers usually climb up a few supplies that are lacking in this Pasar Koto baru. Here also we can eat and relax and chat with other climbers.

For more interesting, should make the climb on the mountain is done in the morning. In addition to health problems, during the ascent we also can enjoy the beautiful sights along this route. From the Pasar Koto Baru ascent to the post we can choose between starting with the countryside on foot or public transport leading to the post climbing. If we choose to walk away, more or less took about 30 minutes to arrive at the post climb.

From the climb heading toward Parak Batuang journey continues through the estate with residents. In Parak Batuang we can enjoy the fresh air and filling the volcano in the source water bottle that contained this region.

From Parak Batuang, proceed to the summit of a volcano. From here take limb about 5 hours to mencapi peak. Travel in the contents with a view of tropical forests and some fairly steep ascent path.

Having reached the top, ta ki should choose a location on the rock for a camping place. To reach the summit should be done at dawn, so that we can enjoy views of Mount Marapi sunrise and enjoy the stunning scenery of Mount Marapi in the morning. From the summit of Mount Marapi, we can enjoy views of the town of Bukittinggi, Mount Singgalang, views of Lake Singkarak located in the District of Solok.
